Hoya Saxa Weekend

Each spring, the Center for Multicultural Equity and Access (CMEA) hosts Hoya Saxa Weekend. We are excited to bring potential Georgetown students of color to campus in celebration of what Georgetown University has to offer. The tentative date for Hoya Saxa Weekend 2010 is Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25.

Please read all of the following information if you would like to participate in Hoya Saxa Weekend.

What is Hoya Saxa Weekend? As described above, Hoya Saxa Weekend is a chance for admitted students of color to experience campus life, meet current students, and ask important questions before making their college decision. Unfortunately, we can only accommodate admitted students who are able to participate in the full program, Thursday morning to Sunday morning departure. It means:

• Full participation in the program and related events, Thursday, April 22 to Sunday, April 25, including opportunities to meet current students, a reception with faculty and staff, a cultural showcase with special performances by Georgetown students, an insider's DC tour, and a closing banquet with alumni.
• Your transportation to and from campus will be arranged by us and free of cost to you. You will need to get to your home airport/train/bus station, but we'll take care of the rest — travel fare from your home airport/train/bus station to and from DC and transportation to and from the DC airport/train/bus station and Georgetown's campus.
• Meals will be provided throughout the program, from Thursday dinner to a Saturday evening banquet. You will be responsible for any additional snacks or purchases that you choose to make.
• A current student will host you in his or her room. You will want to bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, or other bedding and towels.
• Participation in the Georgetown Admissions Ambassador Program (GAAP) events including class visits, lunch with the deans, and more.

Who can come to Hoya Saxa Weekend? Hoya Saxa Weekend is a special opportunity for admitted students of color to experience campus life. Please note that the Hoya Saxa Weekend program highlights Georgetown's dynamic student of color community — if you are not particularly interested in this experience, you may choose not to participate in this weekend.

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer a program to parents or families. If your parent or family member would like to visit campus, please direct them to the GAAP website, http://gaap.georgetown.edu.

Please keep in mind that while we do our best to accommodate everyone, our resources are limited. Participation in the program will be granted on a first come, first served basis.

When is Hoya Saxa Weekend? The program dates for 2010 are tentatively set for April 22 to 25, 2010. Our program begins at 6 pm on Thursday, so we would schedule your travel to campus to occur during the day on Thursday. The program ends on Saturday evening, and your flight home would be scheduled for an early Sunday morning departure.

Ok, great. Now how do I sign up? Hoya Saxa Weekend is limited to admitted students. Further directions on how to participate in Hoya Saxa Weekend 2010 will be sent via email or US mail to admitted students of color in early April 2010.

I haven't been admitted yet, but I really want to visit Georgetown, and I can't afford to come on my own! Do you have any resources to help me visit now? Unfortunately, we do not have any funds for assisting with travel expenses outside of the Hoya Saxa Weekend program.
